"No, Non Turbarti" by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827)

One of Beethoven's early works (without opus), this piece is unusual in that it is one of the few pieces written for strings only. It has a brief recitativo, followed by an aria. The premise of the piece is that Nice, a young shepherdess is caught in a storm. A young man tries to coax her into a cave, where he will "protect" her

and "Shelter" her from the storm.

St. Paul Suite by Gustav Holst (1874-1934)

Holst was a popular teacher at the St. Paul School for Girls in London. This piece was written for the students at the school.
